Studio Policies
The following policies are designed to provide a base of understanding between the student, parent/guardian, and teacher. Please read carefully before completing the Lesson Application.
-
Consideration: To be considered for acceptance in the studio, complete and submit the Lesson Application. Prospective students will be vetted in the order applications are received. Submission of a Lesson Application does not guarantee acceptance to the studio.
-
Payment: After the initial FREE 30 minute introductory lesson, payment for lessons must be received at the start of a face-to-face lesson, if not before, or a minimum of 24 hours prior to an electronic lesson. If payment is not received in the manner explained here, the lesson will not happen and will not be rescheduled.
-
Rescheduling/Cancelling a Lesson: If a student is unable to attend a scheduled lesson, the lesson may be cancelled or rescheduled IF requested by the student or parent/guardian a minimum of 24 hours prior to the scheduled lesson. If the lesson is cancelled or rescheduled under this policy, prepayment of the original lesson will extend to the next lesson.
-
Missed Lesson: If a student does not attend a scheduled lesson and did not make appropriate arrangements to cancel or reschedule within the 24 hour window, pre-payment for the missed lesson will not be refunded. If the student is engaged in face-to-face lessons and does not attend a scheduled lesson, payment will be expected for the missed lesson in addition to the next lesson prior to continuing with lessons.
IMPORTANT: Two consecutive missed lessons without any communication with me will permanently cancel the students' spot in the studio. To be considered for reinstatement in lessons, a new Lesson Application will need to be submitted.
-
Emergency: Each case of a students' personal or family emergency will be handled on a case-by-case basis. Please ensure the emergency which precluded you attending a scheduled lesson is a true emergency. In the event emergencies becomes a recurring theme, the student will be advised to suspend flute lessons until such time as taking lessons will not be regularly interrupted. If lessons are suspended, a new Lesson Application will need to be submitted.
-
Equipment/Materials: The student is responsible for bringing their own flute and recommended music to each lesson. If a student shows up for a lesson without an instrument or the assigned music the lesson will be cancelled and payment will be expected. In addition, it is the student and parent/guardians' responsibility to ensure any instrument repair necessary is conducted in a timely manner. If a repair is taking particularly long, please communicate in a timely manner with me so the lesson schedule may be appropriately adjusted. Additional materials needed include a pencil, metronome, tuner, and music stand (online lessons). See Tips for helpful information.
-
Electronic (Skype) Lessons: It is the responsibility of the student or parent/guardian to ensure the appropriate equipment is available for the student to use prior to the first scheduled online lesson (see above/Tips). It is understood that technology may not be 100% reliable. I will do everything possible to ensure the lesson happens as scheduled. The same is expected of the student. Please see Tips for guidance in setting up an area appropriate for your flute lesson in your chosen space.
-
Parents Welcome: Parents are welcome to attend lessons, whether face-to-face or virtual.
The lesson attendance policies above will be reciprocated. Every measure will be taken to not reschedule/cancel your lesson, however, I do have other teaching and performance responsibilities which may interrupt the schedule from time to time. In the event I need to reschedule/cancel your lesson, you/the student will be notified a minimum of 24 hours in advance.
If the lesson which is rescheduled/cancelled is prepaid, your payment will be extended to the next lesson. In the event appropriate notice of a cancelled/rescheduled lesson is not communicated, you will receive the next lesson free of charge. Any prepayment for such a missed lesson will be applied to the week subsequent to the lesson free of charge.
